Home » My Bodacious Blog » Expert Indie Author Book Editor Christine Bode: Must-See Interview

On April 11, 2026, I, expert book editor for indie authors, Christine Bode (it feels weird to say that, but SEO says I must), enjoyed a conversation that felt less like an interview and more like stepping through a hidden doorway—into story, inspiration, and the strange magic that binds them. I had the pleasure of joining bestselling indie fantasy author P. L. Stuart on his BookTube series, SIX ELEMENTALS.

Crafting Clarity: My Work with Indie Authors

For those who are meeting me here for the first time—hello! I’m Christine Bode, founder of Bodacious Copy. I’m a literary alchemist devoted to helping indie authors transform raw manuscripts into polished, compelling books. Through line editing, copyediting, and proofreading, I refine not just grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but rhythm, clarity, and tone. Beyond editing, I guide authors through manuscript formatting, book cover creation, and author website design. I also craft book marketing plans and consult on social media presence—because storytelling doesn’t end at “The End.” It must also find its way into the world.

A Creative Partnership in Fantasy

P.L. (Paul) and I share a creative history that runs deep. We’ve collaborated on four books in The Drowned Kingdom Saga, beginning with Lord and King. Upon meeting his lovely wife, Deb, she gave me the thumbs up. That’s probably what convinced Paul he’d made the right choice. Being his editor is both a privilege and an adventure. His imagination doesn’t just wander—it storms the gates. My role? Occasionally, coaxing those exuberant ellipses back into line. Seriously, with P.L., I mostly use a brush and not a scalpel to shape his fantastic stories into publication-ready books that look great on a fantasy lover’s bookshelf!

The Story Behind the Editor

But editing, for me, has never been just technical—it’s intuitive. As a published poet, book reviewer, and lifelong seeker of truth, I bring both precision and empathy to every manuscript I touch. I listen deeply and thoughtfully. I encourage authors to lean into bold authenticity, even when it feels uncomfortable. My work is guided as much by instinct as by experience. Twenty-five years in administrative roles, more than fifteen years in social media strategy, and a career in editing that began in 2008 and evolved into a senior editorial role in 2012 led me to where I am. And since then, I’ve had the honour of helping countless writers shape their stories into something enduring.

Poet and Devoted Bibliophile

I’m also, at heart, a poet and a devoted bibliophile. Having read more than 1,200 books, I carry a vast inner library. It continues to inform my editorial eye and deepen my appreciation for what makes a story linger long after the final page. My voice as a reader and book reviewer once extended into reviewing for publishers such as Simon & Schuster Canada and HarperCollins Canada. Today, on My Bodacious Blog, I celebrate the craft and courage behind powerful storytelling.

On Poetry, Creative Influences, and Editorial Insight

In this conversation, Paul and I wander through the landscapes that have shaped my path. We cover poetry, creative influences, heroes, villains, and the transition from social media manager to editor. I also share my thoughts on the ever-shifting horizon of AI in the literary world. It’s an honest, wide-ranging conversation—one that reflects who I am, what I believe in, and what is reflected in my soul.

When WiFi Has Its Own Agenda

I’ll be candid—the WiFi had its own agenda that day, and some of my words slipped through the cracks. Technology is remarkable when it works. However, what remains is something genuine. Thoughtful. Human.

And if you’re an author reviewing the final pages of your next book—wondering who might help you refine it, honour it, elevate it—you may find an answer waiting for you here.

Enjoy the interview!
