I have been the senior editor for Publish and Promote since 2012 and have worked as a freelance copy editor and proofreader since 2008. Bodacious Copy is my latest entrepreneurial endeavour and I am excited to embark on this new adventure!
Much of my copyediting experience was gained during my 25-year career as a secretary and administrative assistant in a variety of industries including law, advertising, architecture and engineering, city government, and medicine. As a result, I have considerable knowledge of legal, medical, engineering, broadcasting, scientific, and business terminology.
I am based in Kingston, Ontario, but lived for ten years in Toronto where I worked primarily in law firms as a legal assistant. I earned diplomas in Television Broadcasting (1984) and Medical Office Administration – Honours (2009) and am currently working on a Professional Editing Standards Certificate from Queen’s University.
A wide variety of creative experiences made my life interesting at times, including being the Vice-President of Student Programming while attending Loyalist College of Arts & Technology where I booked talent for special events and pub evenings. I was a photo model for a print ad, and worked as an extra while living in Vancouver. My first extra job was on my favourite TV show, The X-Files, and I appeared in Season 2’s Red Museum episode. I have also volunteered as an usher, promoted musicians and actors, and co-produced a play.
From 2001-2004, I owned and operated a website called The Celtic Poet through which I published my book, music, and movie reviews, and posted original photography that I sold through my first entrepreneurial endeavour, Celtic Poet Photography. I wrote book reviews for many years for Simon & Schuster Canada and HarperCollins Canada as well as various online entertainment magazines. In 2008, I self-published my first book of poetry entitled Eden Refugee. My second volume, Pagan Pathology, is currently in progress.
In March 2008, I realized a lifelong dream of working with musicians and authors and founded Scully Love Promo, a digital promotions company offering social media management, marketing, and virtual assistance. This business was successful until the end of December 2020 when it became clear that as musicians can no longer tour for the foreseeable future and earn little income from digital streaming, that it was time for me to focus on my copyediting skills. So here I am… ready, willing, and able to help you present your best-written work to the world and to assist with a Twitter marketing strategy to sell it!
